Problems installing WebMIRS

Depending on your computer's configuration, there are a number of things that could potentially go wrong during installation of either the Java Runtime Environment or WebMIRS. Here's a few things to check:

  1. If you can't log into the system, make sure that you are typing in the username and password correctly. Both should be completely in lowercase with no spaces.

  2. Verify that you do indeed have Java Runtime Environment (JRE) installed on your machine. On Windows you can do this by checking the "Add/Remove Programs" from the Control Panel. Check for something like "Java 2 Runtime Environment SE v1.x.x_xx" . If not, go back through the installation steps and install them.

  3. If you get an error dialog that says "Unable to launch WebMIRS", click on the "Details" button. If under the "General" tab it says "The application has requested a version of the JRE that is not installed", it means you are using an older version of the JRE. WebMIRS now requires at least version 1.4 of the Java JRE. You must uninstall Java Web Start (see above for directions) and then download the latest JRE by going to Sun Microsystems and install it.

  4. There can sometimes be a conflict between multiple versions of the JRE. If you have multiple versions installed (see above comment on locating what JRE is installed), uninstall all of them and reinstall the latest version.

If you still have problems getting WebMIRS to run, check our Frequently Asked Questions page or contact us using our Feedback page.
