If you are going to use NHANES data from WebMIRS to make inferences about the U.S. population, learn the requirements for properly analyzing the data:

  • Use the statistical weights
  • Use the Primary Sampling Unit (PSU) and strata variables and software that will model the NHANES complex sampling method
  • Know the implications of subsetting the data before computing statistics.

In short, learn the NCHS analysis guidelines, get acquainted with the published literature in the field, and benefit from example analyses.
