This report describes a study in which blood samples obtained from 1,882 motorists fatally injured in traffic crashes were analyzed for the presence of alcohol and/or 43 other drugs, to determine their causal role in the crashes. Coroner and medical examiner reports were also examined, along with Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS) data and police reports.
