Dream Anatomy, originally developed as a catalog to accompany the Dream Anatomy exhibition held at the National Library of Medicine from October 9, 2002 to July 31, 2003, lavishly displays the anatomical imagination in some of its most astonishing incarnations from the fourteenth century to present. The invention of the printing press in the 15th century helped to inspire a new spectacular science of anatomy, and new spectacular visions of the body. Dream Anatomy is filled with anatomical imagery, detailed and informative but also colorful, whimsical, surreal, beautiful, and grotesque.
