Stem Cell and Epithelial Biology

Unit on Ocular Stem Cells and Translational Research and the Section on Epithelial and Retinal Physiology and Disease at the National Eye Institute (NEI), National Institutes of Health (NIH), in Bethesda, MD are seeking outstanding postdoctoral candidates in Stem Cell and Epithelial Biology. Postdoctoral positions are available to study molecular mechansims underlying retinal degenerative eye diseases using the induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cell technology. We are particularly interested in the use of iPS cell derived retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) cells for in vitro analysis of pathways involved in ocular diseases and for developing cell-based and small molecule therapies. We are equipped with a state-of-the-art research facility that utilizes cutting-edge physiology, in vivo and in vitro electrophysiology, imaging, and molecular cell biology techniques. We are looking for an experienced cellular physiologist with a strong publication record. Graduate or undergraduate training in biophysics, bioengineering, chemical engineering, genetics, imaging, or neuroscience is required. Experience in stem cell biology, epithelial biology, retinal/RPE functions & pathology, and imaging are highly desirable.

Interested candidates should have a Ph.D. or equivalent in one of the above-mentioned disciplines. Please send your Curriculum Vitae, a one-page research proposal involving the use of iPS cells and RPE, and the names and contact information of three references to Dr. Kapil Bharti (kapilbharti@nei.nih.gov) or Dr. Sheldon Miller (MillerS@NEI.NIH.GOV). Application MUST be submitted as a single pdf file with your last name as the file name.
