Free Trade Agreements: 20 Ways to Grow Your Business

By: U.S. Department of Commerce

GPO Stock # 999-999-99999-9 ISBN: 9780160910357

Less than one percent of all U.S. businesses export and of those that do, 56 percent sell to only one market.  These same business owners tell researchers that the reason for not exporting is that they are not confident choosing the best markets for their products and services and that they are wary of risk.

Free Trade Agreements: 20 Ways to Grow Your Business takes the mystery out of exporting by analyzing opportunities in country markets where the U.S. government has negotiated preferential access for U.S. companies.  The book provides detailed information on best prospects, insights on the economic and political situation, tips on business culture, free and low-cost assistance for entering each market.  The book also describes how dramatically trade has grown as a result of the free trade agreements.

Also included are case studies of smaller U.S. companies who have succeeded by targeting this group of countries which includes Canada and Mexico. Furthermore, new agreement partners including Peru, South Korea, and Colombia are explored. Written in plain language and illustrated with graphs and tables, this resource is the long-awaited handbook for entering and succeeding in new markets.

The Financial Crisis Inquiry Report: Final Report of the National Commission on the Causes of the Financial and Economic Crisis in the United States (ePub eBook)

By: National Commission on the Causes of the Financial and Economic Crisis

GPO Stock # 666-000-08835-9 ISBN: 9780160883590

In the wake of the most significant financial crisis since the Great Depression, the President signed into law on May 20, 2009, the Fraud Enforcement and Recovery Act of 2009, creating the Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission. The Commission was established to "examine the causes, domestic and global, of the current financial and economic crisis in the United States."

The 10 members of the bi-partisan Commission, prominent private citizens with significant experience in banking, market regulation, taxation, finance, economics, housing, and consumer protection, were appointed by Congress on July 15, 2009. The Chair, Phil Angelides, and Vice Chair, Bill Thomas, were selected jointly by the House and Senate Majority and Minority Leadership.

The FCIC was charged with conducting a comprehensive examination of 22 specific and substantive areas of inquiry related to the financial crisis. Some of these areas include:

  • fraud and abuse in the financial sector, including fraud and abuse towards consumers in the mortgage sector;
  • Federal and State financial regulators, including the extent to which they enforced, or failed to enforce statutory, regulatory, or supervisory requirements;
  • the global imbalance of savings, international capital flows, and fiscal imbalances of various governments;
  • monetary policy and the availability and terms of credit;
  • accounting practices, including, mark-to-market and fair value rules, and treatment of off-balance sheet vehicles;
  • tax treatment of financial products and investments;
  • credit rating agencies in the financial system, including, reliance on credit ratings by financial institutions and Federal financial regulators, the use of credit ratings in financial regulation, and the use of credit ratings in the securitization markets;
  • lending practices and securitization, including the originate-to-distribute model for extending credit and transferring risk;
  • and more

The Commission is called upon to examine the causes of major financial institutions which failed, or were likely to have failed, had they not received exceptional government assistance.

In its work, the Commission is authorized to hold hearings; issue subpoenas either for witness testimony or documents; and refer to the Attorney General or the appropriate state Attorney General any person who may have violated U.S. law in relation to the financial crisis.

Advertising and Marketing Review http://www.ad-mkt-review.com/public_html/air/ai200202.html by Glen Emerson Morris

"A Basic Guide to Exporting is a good place to begin for anyone who's never had a course in international marketing.  It's just one of a hundred-book-length publications featured in the International Trade Library section of the GLOBUS & NTDB Website.  The book's sixteen chapters provide a comprehensive study of international marketing, and how to look at exporting as a "process." Keeping America Informed: The United States Government Printing Office 150 Years of Service to the Nation (ePub eBook)

By: U.S. Government Printing Office

GPO Stock # 666-001-12312-5 ISBN: 9780160891182

For 150 years, U.S. Government Printing Office (GPO) has produced the digital documents of democracy crucial to an informed citizenry. Keeping America Informed: the U.S. Government Printing Office, 150 Years of Service to the Nation, published to mark GPO's 150th anniversary as a Federal agency, tells the story of this unique organization through a readable and concise narrative and numerous historic photographs, many of them never before published.

This handsome new volume provides a panoramic view of GPO, which opened its doors for business on March 4, 1861, as Abraham Lincoln was inaugurated as the 16th president of the United States. After a description of the previous history of “publick printing” and the founding of GPO, Keeping America Informed covers the agency's physical and technological growth in the Gilded Age, its reform during the Progressive Era, and its crucial role in supporting the Government's efforts to grapple with the Great Depression and two world wars.

Post-World War II, the book describes GPO's transition from traditional printing to the digital technology of today. It also highlights the hugely significant role the agency has played in the dissemination of federal Government information through its publications sales and Federal depository library programs.

Much of the information in Keeping America Informed is new, the product of the latest research into GPO's history. Above all, its authoritative text and unique images depict the enormous contribution of its employees, past and present, to the well-being of the American people and nation.

Ponzimonium: How Scam Artists Are Ripping Off America (ePub eBook)

By: U.s. Commodity Futures Trading Commission

GPO Stock # 666-080-00001-1 ISBN: 9780160890802

Fortunately, more than ever before, con artists are being apprehended and prosecuted.  Federal, state and local law enforcement officials have reported enormous increases in tips and criminal activity since the economic calamity began in 2008.  Cash redemptions are dangerous for Ponzi schemes, because when the money runs out, folks start talking.  For example, at any one time, enforcement staff at the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) are investigating anywhere between 750 and 1,000 individuals or entities for various violations of the law.  Increases in tips and fraud cases have also occurred at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), at the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), in the states, and various localities around the world.

The stories in this book are actual CFTC cases stemming from investigations that began with the economic downturn. These are real cases, real fraudsters, with unfortunately . . . very real victims.  While, the fundamental nature of the writing in such files is, as you would imagine, very bureaucratic:  this script is anything but bureaucratic.

Commissioner Chilton has worked in public service for over a quarter of a century and has found that one of the most important things that can be done is to make government less puzzling and perplexing, less mysterious, and yes, less bureaucratic.  While Commissioner Chilton can’t say there has been any monumental change in how folks see their government, over the years, Commissioner Chilton continues to try and do his part by communicating in a way that lets folks “in” on what is going on.  This writing is an effort to continue that work.  Commissioner Chilton hopes it will be a satisfying read, but more importantly, maybe some folks will avoid the tremendous tragedy that so many of our fellow citizens have endured.
