A Life Inspired: Tales of Peace Corps Service

2006 marks the 45 th Anniversary of the Peace Corps. As part of its celebration, the Peace Corps is publishing A Life Inspired, a lively, eye-opening book recounting the encounters and experiences of 28 Volunteers as they pursued their Peace Corps service. Compelling, inspiring, sometimes funny, often poignant, these first-person stories represent the breadth of Peace Corps work, the countries it serves, and the diversity of its Volunteers. Together, the stories reflect the adventure, the cross-cultural exchange, the personal growth, and the deep friendships forged as part of the Peace Corps Volunteers journey.

The book begins with a Foreword by Peace Corps Director Gaddi H. Vasquez that outlines the work of Peace Corps Volunteers and how they exemplify living “a life inspired”. The stories are grouped under three themes:

  • Making a difference
  • Life is calling
  • Window to the world

A Life Inspired has a full-color cover with numerous black and white photographs separating chapter sections. The book features a back cover quote by President Bush on volunteer service.
