Forecast Discussion: FORECAST SUMMARY: Tuesday, February 19th, 2013 through Monday, February 25th, 2013 PM-2.5: 24-hour Fine Particulate concentrations are expected to be mostly Good this week with the possibility for low Moderates by early next week. FORECAST DISCUSSION: The low pressure area producing strong northwest winds and snow showers on Tuesday will track northeast into Canada through mid-week. Northwest winds will remain in place during this period keeping air quality levels Good. High pressure moves in for a short time Thursday before a weakening weather system tracks closer to the state. Surface winds switch to an easterly/southeasterly direction Thursday night into Friday. This flow generally is not conducive for increased pollution. Air quality Thursday and Friday is expected to remain Good. The weakening system remains over northern portions of the state into Saturday as high pressure slides south of the state. Light winds might allow for an increase in air pollution. Readings Saturday could reach the low Moderate range, especially in more urban areas. EXTENDED FORECAST: A stronger storm moves in from the southwest by Monday; however, before then winds will be light Sunday, and then will take on a southerly component Monday. Fine particulate levels during this period will likely range from middle Good to low Moderate.
