In cooperation with the China Center for Children’s Welfare and Adoption (CCCWA), National Council For Adoption (NCFA) is delighted to announce the “Celebrating Culture and Experiencing China” Winter Tour from December 23, 2012 – January 1, 2013. Unlike previous trips, this year’s tour will be open to children who were adopted from China, adoptive parents, and siblings.
The trip will begin with a four-day tour of Beijing, during which participants will have the opportunity to experience the vibrant and colorful culture of China’s capital city. From there, camp participants will travel to several cities throughout China, including Xi’an, Chengdu, and ShangLi. Among other activities, participants will visit the Great Wall, feed and clean panda bears at the BiFengXia Panda Center, and experience enriching local cultural activities. The William E. Simon Foundation has awarded National Council For Adoption (NCFA) a $50,000 outright gift and a $50,000 challenge grant for the iChooseAdoption public awareness campaign. The grant funds will support NCFA’s 2012-2013 iChooseAdoption project, which aims to reach young women facing unintended pregnancy with the positive option of adoption.
“We are thrilled that this partnership with the William E. Simon Foundation will allow us to make an even greater impact on the lives of children, birthparents, and adoptive families,” said Chuck Johnson, president and CEO of NCFA. Lauren Koch, director of development and communications added, “We could think of no better name than ‘The Hope Challenge’ for this campaign because of the unique opportunity that Americans all across the United States have to bring hope and healing to young women while growing more families through adoption.”
Find out more about The Hope Challenge by clicking here. The National Council For Adoption (NCFA), a longtime supporter of the adoption tax credit, joins fellow adoption and child welfare advocates in calling for the extension of the adoption tax credit for families adopting children via foster care, intercountry, or domestic infant adoption.
Since the adoption tax credit was first established in 1997, it has helped lessen the financial burden of adoption for thousands of income-qualifying American families that might not otherwise have been able to adopt.
The current maximum allowable adoption tax credit of $13,360 for all adoptive families is set to sunset on December 31, 2012. Unless Congress acts to extend or make permanent the adoption tax credit, it will revert at this time to a maximum of $6,000 for parents adopting children with special needs. No tax credit will be available to other adoptive parents.
The Birthparent Counseling Training is offered free through NCFA’s Infant Adoption Revival Program, funded in part by a grant from the William E. Simon Foundation.
The Birthparent Counseling Training is an online program designed to give professionals basic knowledge and the tools they need to understand and share the option of adoption. This training aims to give pregnancy counselors the confidence to comfortably share the option of adoption, on an equal basis with all other options, so that clients facing an unintended pregnancy can make a fully informed decision.
