Laryngectomees Loving Life - LLL

This film was made for Laryngectomees by Laryngectomees with a lot of help from WTRC and the IAL. The film illustrates that life does not have to end with the surgery, but can even improve and blossom post op.

Passing of Jessie Hart

Jessie Hart

 JHart 2

Jessie Hart of Dallas/Fort Worth area passed away on August 16, 2012. Jessie was a 35+ year veteran laryngectomee
who volunteered her services since the mid 1970s through the American Cancer Society as an IAL trained speech
teacher. She served on the IAL Board of Directors holding many offices for nearly 20 years working tirelessly for the
rehabilitation of so many laryngectomees who came after her. In 1989, she along with Martha Reed and Candy Moltz,
through the American Cancer Society, Texas Division, helped create the Texas Laryngectomee Association (TLA). The
TLA Annual Conference, fashioned after the IAL Annual Meeting and Voice Institute is in its 22nd year thanks to Jessie’s
vision. Through the ACS, Jessie trained many Laryngectomee volunteers through her formal Visitation Training classes.
Countless laryngectomees across Texas and the United States have Jessie Hart to thank for their ability to effectively
use esophageal speech. Prior to her laryngectomy Jessie was a hairdresser, but afterwards, she went back to school
for Rehabilitation Sciences and put her education and skills to work sharing her knowledge with countless new patients,
family members, doctors and speech pathologists. Jessie Hart will be sorely missed.

Services for Jessie Hart will be August 20, 2012 at 11:00 AM.
Family asks donations go to American Cancer Society.
