American Community Survey Data on the Foreign-Born Population

Accessing Data on the Foreign-Born Population Using American FactFinder

Information on the foreign-born population in the United States based on American Community Survey data is available through the American FactFinder. Data products such as detailed tables, subject tables, ranking tables, and selected population profiles on a wide range of social, housing, and economic subjects can be easily accessed and require no knowledge of statistical software programs. Instructions for using the New American FactFinder (AFF2) to access data on the foreign born are available.

ACS Tables Package on the Foreign Born

The 2003 tables package includes data on demographic and socioeconomic characteristics, such as age, educational attainment, poverty status, and population by state. These characteristics are presented in four iterations: U.S. citizenship status, year of entry into the United States, world region of birth, and sub-region of birth for Latin America.

An ACS Summary File is a set of comma-delimited text files that contain all of the Detailed Tables for the ACS 1-year, 3-year or 5-year estimates. It includes all of the Detailed Tables published on the Census Bureau’s American FactFinder as well as additional Detailed Tables not available on American FactFinder.
