General Services Administration executives won't be subject to a daily need to reserve space in the GSA headquarters as it moves to a bullpen style workspace for most of its employees. Speaking at a Dec. 20 event on the redevelopment of Federal Triangle South, officials said GSA executives will not need to make office space reservations like average GSA employees and that recurring meetings will have space set aside for them.

A joint U.S.-Canadian commission tasked with breaking down regulatory barriers to cross-border trade says it is making progress in several key areas.No regulations have actually been revised in either country, but pilot programs are headed in that direction, according to the progress report (.pdf) issued this Dec. 14 by the Canada-United States Regulatory Cooperation Council.

As many as 100 million taxpayers could face refund delays and filing problems if fiscal cliff negotiations fail to adjust the alternative minimum tax exemption before the end of 2012, says Internal Revenue Service Acting Commissioner Steve Miller. In a Dec. 19 letter (.pdf), Miller said that 80 to 100 million taxpayers would be unable to file taxes while the IRS reprograms its tax processing systems to take into account the expiration of a temporary measure that adjusts the AMT exception for inflation.

President Obama has promised federal action to curb gun violence in America, saying he will address the issue with specific recommendations in his 2013 State of the Union address. He also urged Congress to take its own action as soon as possible. "There is a big chunk of space between what the Second Amendment means and having no rules at all," he said.
