National Advisory Council About Statement & Mission Statement

The National Advisory Council (NAC) was established by the enactment of the Post-Katrina Emergency Management Reform Act of 2006 to ensure effective and ongoing coordination of Federal preparedness, protection, response, recovery, and mitigation for natural disasters, acts of terrorism, and other manmade disasters. The National Advisory Council advises the FEMA Administrator on all aspects of emergency management. The National Advisory Council incorporates state, tribal, and local governments and private sector input in the development and revision of the national preparedness goal, the national preparedness system, the National Incident Management System, the National Response Plan and other related plans and strategies.

NEW National Advisory Council Members

We are welcoming nine new members and reappointing one member to the National Advisory Council. Administrator Fugate has reappointed Jim Featherstone as the Chair and appointed Teresa Scott as the Vice Chair of the NAC. For more information on the appointments, please visit the FEMA Blog.

Membership

The members of the National Advisory Council are appointed by the Administrator, and, to the extent practicable, are geographically diverse and represent a substantive cross section of officials, emergency managers, and emergency response providers from state, tribal, and local governments, the private sector, and nongovernmental organizations.
