2 Florida residents arrested and charged in cocaine conspiracy

MIAMI - A boat captain and its owner were arrested Friday on drug smuggling-related federal charges following an investigation by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Ronald Earl Landrum, 61, of Miramar, Fla., and Charles Edward Norman, 59, of Rotunda West, Fla., were arrested by ICE special agents Friday on a criminal complaint issued by U.S. Magistrate Judge Lurana S. Snow. The defendants made their initial appearance in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., on Jan. 11 and a pretrial detention hearing is scheduled for Jan. 14.

Specifically, the complaint charges Landrum and Norman with conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute and possession with intent to distribute five kilograms or more of cocaine. According to the complaint, ICE special agents found approximately 335 kilogram-sized packages of cocaine hidden in a secret compartment onboard a 32-foot sailboat with the name "See Ya."

This case is being investigated by ICE's Office of Investigations in Ft. Lauderdale with the assistance of U.S. Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine units, City of Fort Lauderdale Police Department, and the Broward Sheriff's Office Strategic Investigations Division.

This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Laurie Rucoba.
