Upstate New York woman sentenced for conspiring to import ecstasy

BUFFALO, N.Y. — An upstate New York woman who was convicted of conspiring to import ecstasy, was sentenced to time served, nine months home detention on electronic monitoring and three years of supervised release.

According to court documents, Jennifer Stein, 30, of Leroy, N.Y., was stopped at the Rainbow Bridge in Buffalo on April 2, 2006. During a secondary search, officers discovered close to 2,000 ecstasy pills. Stein was attempting to smuggle the pills with the assistance of another individual who had the narcotics strapped to her person with duct tape. The defendant had paid the other person $400 to smuggle the drugs into the United States.

The case was investigated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert C. Moscati, Western District of New York, prosecuted the case.
