Pennsylvania woman pleads guilty to drug charge

BUFFALO, N.Y. – A Pennsylvania woman pleaded guilty to conspiracy to import a controlled substance. The charge carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a $1 million fine. This investigation is being conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

Theresa Zekia Shaw, 23, of Philadelphia, pleaded guilty to the charge before U.S. District Judge Richard J. Arcara. Shaw and Jermaine Samuels, 27, of Lynn, Mass., both attempted to smuggle ecstasy pills which were found in plastic bags hidden under the back seat of a vehicle driven into the United States from Canada. The vehicle was  registered to Samuels who was arrested when he arrived at a designated location to meet Shaw.

Samuels was also convicted of conspiracy to import a controlled substance and will be sentenced on Dec. 22, 2011. Sentencing for Shaw is scheduled for March 25, 2012.

This case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Charles B. Wydysh.
