What is Supplemental Security Income?

The Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program pays benefits to disabled adults and children who have limited income and resources.

SSI benefits also are payable to people 65 and older without disabilities who meet the financial limits.

People who have worked long enough may also be able to receive Social Security disability or retirement benefits as well as SSI.

How Do I Apply For SSI?

We do not have an SSI application online. If you would like to apply for SSI benefits for:

An adult with a disability

  • Fill out the online disability report to get the process started; and
  • Schedule an appointment with a Social Security representative to complete the process.

If you do not wish to fill out the online disability report, contact us for an appointment. To make an appointment, call 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778) between 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday or contact your local Social Security office.
