Mechanisms of Retinoid and Lipid Metabolism in the Retina

A postdoctoral research position is available immediately in the Molecular Mechanisms Section, Laboratory of Retinal Cell & Molecular Biology, National Eye Institute (NEI), in Bethesda, Maryland, to study unique metabolic/regulatory pathways specific to the retina/retinal pigment epithelium. The Molecular Mechanisms Section studies 1) mechanisms of retinoid metabolism and isomerization in the retina/retinal pigment epithelium; 2) lipid metabolism in the retina/retinal pigment epithelium; and 3) regulation of metabolic and signaling pathways in the retina/retinal pigment epithelium. Our overall goal is to better understand retinoid and lipid metabolism in vision and in retinal degenerations, and to develop therapies to treat derangements of these pathways. We have access to a wide range of NEI core facilities, including biological imaging, genetic engineering, visual function, mass spectrometry, bioinformatics resources and to additional expertise at the NIH Bethesda campus. Training will be provided as required.
