Statement of Principles

We are committed to the following principles:

  1. Provide a safe and secure work and training environment for inmates and UNICOR staff.

  2. Meet or exceed all applicable environmental, health, and safety laws and regulations at the Federal, State, and local levels.

  3. Ensure that factory processes and practices prevent pollution of the environment, and protect worker safety, to prevent injury and ill health.

  4. Ensure that all focus materials are managed properly on site. Conduct due diligence investigations of downstream vendors handling focus materials to ensure they are handled safely and legally by all.

  5. Establish objectives and targets to foster continual improvement in all aspects of factory operations.

  6. Obtain third-party certifications from qualified, independent experts to provide ongoing verification of the soundness of factory operations. Those certifications will include ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, and Responsible Recycling (R2).

  7. Process all incoming material on a hierarchy of responsible management strategies:

    1. a. Reuse – unless a customer directs otherwise
      b. Materials Recovery – applies to equipment and components not directed to reuse
      c. Energy recovery – For secure destruction of some forms of data storage media
      d. Disposal in a landfill – For some non-electronic waste such as wood and packaging, when reuse or recovery markets are not available

  8. Ensure that our data security practices fully meet our customer needs and the requirements of R2.

  9. Review policies on a continual basis, but at least once per operating year.
