FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 99-121 SEC To Host Small Business Town Hall Meeting in Albuquerque, NM Washington, DC, September 24, 1999 -- The Commission today announced that a small business town hall meeting will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 21, 1999 at the State Bar of New Mexico at 5121 Masthead NE, Albuquerque, New Mexico. The small business town hall meetings, which are being conducted throughout the United States, convey basic information to small businesses about fundamental requirements that must be addressed when these businesses wish to raise capital through the public sale of securities. In addition, the Commission hopes to learn more about the concerns and problems facing small businesses in raising capital so that programs can be designed to meet their needs, consistent with the protection of investors. SEC Commissioner Paul R. Carey is the featured speaker of the Albuquerque Small Business Town Hall Meeting, which is being co-sponsored by the Greater Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce and the State Bar of New Mexico -- Small Firm and Solo Section. Other speakers include G. Till Phillips, National Advocate for Rural Affairs for the Office of Advocacy, U.S. Small Business Administration, William J. Verant, Acting Director for the New Mexico Securities Division, and Ingrid Baker, Ace-Net Operator for the State of New Mexico, among others.
