In addition to the NCBI News and What's New, topic-specific mailing lists distribute e-mail announcements about changes and updates to a variety of resources. The available e-mail lists are described below and include links to subscription instructions. Announcements about some other resources are available as RSS Feeds.

To receive general announcements about changes and updates to a broad range of NCBI services, the following e-mail list is available:

    brief announcements on a broad range of NCBI resources and news items, with pointers to more detailed information (for example, in the topic-specific mailing lists below). To receive topic-specific announcements about changes and updates to individual NCBI services, the following e-mail lists are available:

    Announcements about the BioSystems database of biological systems. To subscribe, simply complete a brief form, or send an e-mail message with subscribe in the Subject to: biosystems-announce-request@ncbi.nlm.nih.gov. For more information on the database, see the BioSystems home page.


  • blast-announce@ncbi.nlm.nih.gov
    BLAST news messages, including announcements about updates and new features, and advance notices about upcoming changes in the NCBI BLAST service (more...). To subscribe, simply complete a brief form, or send an e-mail message with subscribe in the Subject to: blast-announce-request@ncbi.nlm.nih.gov.     Announcements about the database of Genotypes and Phenotypes such as the release of new data, new dbGaP features, and reporting corrections or discovered problems.   • dbsnp-announce@ncbi.nlm.nih.gov
    Announcements about updates and new features to dbSNP, the database of single nucleotide polymorphisms, small-scale insertions/deletions, polymorphic repetitive elements, and microsatellite variation. To subscribe, simply complete a brief form, or send an e-mail message with subscribe in the Subject to: dbsnp-announce-request@ncbi.nlm.nih.gov.     GenBank Bionet Newsgroup. A moderated list that includes announcements of new GenBank releases, recent and upcoming changes, and discussion among subscribers. To receive newsgroup postings by e-mail, subscribe through the web form available at http://www.bio.net/biomail/listinfo/genbankb/. The newsgroup archives are accessible on the web at http://www.bio.net/bionet/mm/genbankb/.    General information about Bionet Newsgroups is accessible at http://www.bio.net/.  A brief description of GenBank, as well as a number of links to more information, are provided in the NCBI Resource Guide.

    This E-mail listserv has been retired and messages from the Gene Announce service have been archived.  News about significant changes, such as the addition of genomes, changes in data sources or displays, and new data sources can be obtained from Gene's RSS Feed. Information about Gene is provided from linked documentation on the Gene Database homepage.

    News about recently completed genomes. To subscribe, simply complete a brief form, or send an e-mail message with subscribe in the Subject to: genomes-announce-request@ncbi.nlm.nih.gov. A brief description of Genomes is provided in the site map.


  • geo-announce
    News about GEO (Gene Expression Omnimbus), such as changes in design, tools, or other major enhancements. To subscribe, please send a message to geo@ncbi.nlm.nih.gov, asking to be added to the list. A brief description of GEO is provided in the NCBI Resource Guide. A separate "NCBI-GEO-DEV" mailing list is also available. It contains more frequent messages and additional technical information. That list receives anything sent to GEO announce in addition to smaller changes that might have an effect on users, etc. You can subscribe to "NCBI-GEO-DEV" by completing a brief form sending an email to geo@ncbi.nlm.nih.gov with subject line "join ncib-geo-dev".


  • LinkOut mailing lists: (A brief description of LinkOut is provided in the site map.)

      Announcements affecting Library participants in LinkOut, such as new journal lists, retraction of links, and submission utility enhancements. To subscribe, simply complete the brief form, or send an e-mail message with subscribe in the Subject to: library-linkout-request@ncbi.nlm.nih.gov.

      The tax-linkout mailing list is for announcements relevant to Entrez LinkOut to taxonomic resources on the web. List members include providers who maintain sets of linkout links from Entrez to their taxonomic databases, as well as other interested parties. Announcements include new features that make maintaining linkout link sets easier, more powerful, and more readily automated. To subscribe, simply complete the brief form, or send an e-mail message with subscribe in the Subject to: tax-linkout-request@ncbi.nlm.nih.gov.

  • mapview-announce@ncbi.nlm.nih.gov
    Announcements about major changes in NCBI's Map Viewer. It will include changes in function, display, documentation, the ftp site and tools. A message will also be posted when a genome is first made available.
