Dissemination and Implementation Research: NCCAM Interests

NCCAM is participating in the NIH Dissemination and Implementation Research in Health Funding Opportunity Announcements (FOAs): (R01) PAR-13-055 and (R21) PAR-13-054.

For applications responding to the Dissemination and Implementation FOAs, NCCAM is especially interested in studies investigating the following:

• Studies of implementation strategies for standardized outcomes monitoring measures in health care settings that incorporate complementary approaches for pain management
• Development of data systems or electronic medical record elements that can support ongoing assessment of the use of complementary approaches in health care settings
• Utilization of data systems or electronic medical record elements to support ongoing assessment of evidence-based clinical practice guidelines that incorporate complementary approaches in patient care settings
• Studies exploring effective strategies to implement screening for use of nonvitamin, nonmineral dietary supplements by nurses, physicians, or pharmacists in medical settings in order to reduce risk of deleterious interactions with medications (e.g., incorporation in medical record or use of electronic app)
• Studies examining the extent to which providers such as N.D.s, D.O.s, and D.C.s are implementing or supporting best practice guidelines for known beneficial health-related behaviors such as childhood vaccination, exercise, healthy weight maintenance; studies identifying barriers to implementation of these guidelines for these providers and patients who see such providers; and identifying effective approaches to enhance implementation of guidelines and promotion of these behaviors in patient care settings where providers such as N.D.s, D.O.s, and D.C.s are providing care
• Studies examining the extent to which providers such as N.D.s, D.O.s, and D.C.s are implementing best practice guidelines for pain or other symptom management; studies identifying barriers to implementation of these guidelines for these providers and patients who see such providers; and identifying effective approaches to enhance implementation of evidence-based clinical practice guidelines in settings where providers such as N.D.s, D.O.s, and D.C.s are providing care.
