Naughty & Nice: A History of the Holiday Season

December 21, 2012

The Puritans banned Christmas, once a time of rowdiness when the poor demanded food from the rich. It wasn’t until the 1820s that the holiday was re-invented as the peaceful, family-friendly, consumer oriented holiday we celebrate today. Join the BackStory Radio Guys as they explore whether Christmas has grown more or less religious, how the holiday has evolved and changed, and how American Jews have shaped their own wintertime rituals.
