Take Our Free Online Course 

Are you interested in starting your own business? Try the assessment tool to determine your readiness to begin your business. Next, take our free online course, the Essential Guide to Starting Your Own Business to learn more about being an entrepreneur.
 
Through this self-paced training course, you will learn:
 
1. How to turn your business idea into a reality;
2. The steps to starting a business;
3. What you need to help your business succeed.
 
After finishing the course, you will receive a certificate of completion and a tip sheet that summarizes key points. You may also use the business planner for guidance on creating your business plan.  Read our Community message boards and blogs for more business tips and advice.

Local Resources

Use our Local Assistance tool to find a counselor or mentor through a SCORE chapter, Small Business Development Center or Women’s Business Center near you.

Start Young Initiative

SBA and the Department of Labor’s Employment and Training Administration have teamed up to provide entrepreneurship training to students enrolled in the Job Corps program. This program, called the Start Young Initiative, will help young people learn the skills they need to start their own businesses.
 
Mentors and counselors from SBA’s resource partners will provide the training, which will last 6-9 weeks in select cities throughout the country. The primary goal of this initiative is by the end of specialized training, the Job Corps participants are provided with the fundamental knowledge about small business opportunities and resources available to them, thus encouraging economic self-sufficiency and personal growth within their local community.

Empowering Youth to Succeed

The Interagency Working Group on Youth Programs provides information, strategies, tools, and resources for youth, families, schools and community organizations related to a variety of cross-cutting topics that affect youth. Learn more about FindYouthInfo.gov.
