Whether you're in housing transition, going through a foreclosure, looking for a new home, or want to become a first time homeowner, Benefits.gov can help you find your way.

Check out the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) programs below that may help you and your family find a new place to call home.

In need of housing advice? The Housing Counseling Assistance Program funds housing counseling agencies throughout the country that can give you advice on buying a home, renting, defaults, foreclosures, credit issues and reverse mortgages. To locate the counseling center near you, view the interactive map of HUD Approved Housing Counseling Agencies.

Looking for affordable housing? The HUD Public Housing Program provides decent and safe rental housing for eligible low-income families. Public housing comes in all sizes and types, from scattered single family houses to high-rise apartments for the elderly.

Searching for a new home? HUD Homes for Sale is a program offering 1-to-4 unit residential property acquired by HUD as a result of a foreclosure action on a Federal Housing Administration (FHA)-insured mortgage. HUD becomes the property owner and offers the HUD Home for sale to recover the loss on the foreclosure claim.

Are you a law enforcement officer, firefighter, emergency medical technician, or teacher?
If so, the Good Neighbor Next Door Sales Program may help you purchase a home in a HUD revitalization area by offering qualified purchasers a 50 percent discount off the list price of homes available from HUD's inventory.
