Description The fast-track program is completed in four semesters of full-time study with no summers. Each semester consists of a 16-semester hour module of coursework and job-embedded field experiences, allowing students to complete field-based activities in their classrooms.Candidates for this program must:
• Be employed as an early care teacher serving infants, toddlers, or preschoolers
• Possess an associate’s degree in early childhood education or child development
• Have an overall cumulative grade point average of 2.7 or higher. A key feature of this program is that it will use a cohort model of instruction. Multiple opportunities have been built into the program for students to work together on collaborative projects, including class activities and field-based assignments. This program focuses on the knowledge, skills, and dispositions that teachers must have in order to be effective teachers for children in two age ranges:
(a) infants and toddlers (birth to three years) and
(b) preschool children aged three to five years.
The curriculum scope and sequence encompasses both age ranges and yet will allow teachers to focus more heavily on one, depending on their job and professional interests.
