He started his career as a legal aid lawyer and VISTA volunteer in Chicago, and has been a part-time hearings officer for the Chicago Commission on Human Relations.

Mr. Jin has an extensive record of community involvement. He is a former member of the American Bar Association Standing Committee on Legal Aid and Indigent Defendants. He served on the board of the Chicago Volunteer Legal Service Foundation and is the founding director of the Asian Legal Services Program in Chicago, which provides free legal services to Chicago's low-income Asian American communities. Mr. Jin also served as General Counsel for the Organization of Chinese Americans and was Co-chair of NAPABA's Civil Rights Committee.
