Acting Deputy Director – Nancy Santiago Negrón
Nancy Santiago Negrón is a researcher, policy advisor and thought leader on workforce creativity and innovation with vast experience in labor and workforce development, women’s issues, education management and community organizing. With a strong interest in international relations, she is passionate about helping people leverage their creative talent for the economic improvement of communities across the globe. Focused on innovation and creativity, workforce development and education, her leadership skills have been employed in educational institutions, non-profit organizations, corporations and cultural organizations.
In June 2010, Nancy was appointed to the position of Senior Policy Advisor and Chief of Research at the U.S. Department of Labor Women’s Bureau in Washington, D.C. Now, in her current role as Deputy Director of the Women’s Bureau, Nancy works to advance the vision of the Bureau--empowering all working women to achieve economic security. She is responsible for positioning the Bureau as a critical thought leader on women’s issues. Through active research, Nancy identifies areas that need improvement for the country’s 72 million working women. She uses that research to identify inform the development of effective workforce policies to improve the way our country’s women work and live.
At speaking engagements, Nancy addresses the importance of developing a workforce that is prepared to meet the needs of a changing economic landscape while leveling the playing field for marginalized populations. Nancy’s end goal is to develop a diverse, creative workforce that becomes THE creative force for our nation providing opportunities for some of our hardest-to-employ workers meet with personal and professional success.
An inspirational activist and speaker she has received numerous awards and recognitions including the Young Hispanic Leaders program in Madrid, Spain, the 2009 “Woman of Distinction” awarded by El Diario La Prensa, New York’s largest Spanish language newspaper and the Woman of Merit Award in Education awarded by the Al Día Newspaper and GlaxoSmithKline in Philadelphia.
Nancy is a native Philadelphian, graduate of the Philadelphia public school district and a two time graduate, Bachelor and Master degrees, of Temple University.
