Stephen R. Weatherford, Deputy Assistant Secretay for Policy DEPUTY ASSISTANT SECRETARY FOR POLICY,
MINE SAFETY AND HEALTH ADMINISTRATION

Stephen R. Weatherford is the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Policy, Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA). He was appointed to the position in October 2012.

Before his appointment as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Policy, Mr. Weatherford was the Federal Disaster Recovery Coordinator for FEMA-Department of Homeland Security in New York.

From 2003 to 2011, Mr. Weatherford served in the cabinet of Governor Kathleen Sebelius as the President of the Kansas Development Finance Authority and Kansas Housing Resource Corporation. He also served as the Governor’s Liasion and State Disaster Recovery Coordinator for the massive tornado disaster in Greensburg, Kansas.

Mr. Weatherford was a Senior Vice President of George K. Baum & Company in the firm’s National Housing Finance Group from 1997-2003.

In 1994, Mr. Weatherford was appointed as the Regional Administrator for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Region VI, an appointment in which he served until 1997. He earned the Secretary’s Award for Distinguished Service in 1995 for his work in the response, recovery, and rebuilding efforts of the HUD offices after the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Office building in Oklahoma City.

From 1985 to 1994, Mr. Weatherford served in various positions in Oklahoma state government, including as Executive Director of the Oklahoma Housing Finance Agency just prior to his appointment at HUD.

Mr. Weatherford holds a BBA in Finance from the University of Central Oklahoma and a Juris Doctorate from Oklahoma City University.
