The First Lady comes to the Department of Justice to speak with Justice employees. She is joined on stage by the Attorney General as well as some of the longest serving department employees.

Attorney General Eric Holder introduced the First Lady and noting her "brilliant legal mind," made her an offer: "I have been so impressed by her legal skills that I’m going to make her an offer- right now- to join the best lawyers in the world, right here at DOJ."

First Lady Michelle Obama shared her reason for becoming an attorney, saying, "I've seen the power that law has to change people's lives in a very real and meaningful way. And I knew that lawyers had the ability to help turn words into justice in the world."

Attorney General Holder looks on as the First Lady addresses Department employees in Great Hall that is packed to capacity.

Mrs. Obama was joined on stage by some of the Department's longest serving employees. In her remarks she noted, "It's just wonderful to see people who have made commitments for decades to government service."

Department employees reach out to shake hands, take pictures of, and speak to the First Lady. Mrs. Obama responded warmly and often stopped to share a few words with individuals.

First Lady Michelle Obama personally greeted many of the hundreds of department employees who had gathered in The Great Hall. During her remarks she praised their service, saying, “I think it’s important for the people around the country to know that government is working hard for the American people and that it’s made up of everyday Americans who are making sacrifices on their behalf.”
