National Archives Revisits Johnson Presidency April 20

Indomitable Will: LBJ in the Presidency

Washington, DC…On Friday, April 20, at noon, the National Archives will host a discussion with Presidential historian Mark Updegrove about his new book Indomitable Will: LBJ in the Presidency. This event is free and open to the public and will take place in the William G. McGowan Theater of the National Archives Building in Washington, DC. Attendees should use the Special Events Entrance, located on the National Mall at Constitution Ave. and 7th Street, NW.

Indomitable Will offers an intimate portrait of President Johnson, his presidency, and the turbulent times in which he served. Medicare, Head Start, PBS, NPR, and the Voting Rights act were signed into law by President Johnson—and all are coming under fire during this presidential election cycle. Updegrove profiles these programs and describes the public life of LBJ. A book signing will follow the program; the book is available at a discount from the Archives Shop (202-357-5271) before and during the event.

Mark K. Updegrove became Director of the LBJ Library & Museum in October 2009. Called "one of the country's best historians" by CNN, Updegrove is an award-winning author with over two decades of leadership experience within top media organizations. Indomitable Will is Updegrove’s third book third book about the American presidency:

Updegrove spent much of his career at TIME magazine, where he became Los Angeles manager, and then president of TIME Canada. He then went to New York as publisher of Newsweek, and publisher of Nickelodeon magazine and MTV magazine for MTV Networks. Later he returned to Toronto as VP of sales, marketing and operations for Yahoo! Canada.
