National Archives Hosts Program on America’s Political System February 28

The Parties Versus the People: How to Turn Republicans and Democrats into Americans

Washington, DC…On Thursday, February 28, at 7 p.m., the National Archives hosts a discussion titled “The Parties Versus the People: How to Turn Republicans and Democrats into Americans.” This public program is free, and no registration is required. It will be held in the William G. McGowan Theater of the National Archives Building in Washington, DC. Attendees should use the Special Events entrance on Constitution Avenue at 7th Street, NW.

A panel of former members of Congress will discuss America’s political system, including redistricting, closed primaries, and the 24-hour news cycle. Moderated by New York Times journalist Jackie Calmes, panelists include Mickey Edwards (R-OK), author of The Parties Versus the People: How to Turn Republicans and Democrats into Americans; Charlie Stenholm (D-TX); David Skaggs (D-CO) and John Porter (R-IL).A book signing follows the program. This program is presented in partnership with the U.S. Association of Former Members of Congress.

Congressional Records at the National Archives
