Washington, DC…On Wednesday, December 16, at 7 p.m., the National Archives will host Pulitzer prize-winning author Annette Gordon-Reed who will discuss her groundbreaking new book, The Hemingses of Monticello: An American Family.

In The Hemingses of Monticello, the Hemings family finally comes to light in all its complexity. Author Annette Gordon-Reed, professor of law at New York Law School and professor of history at Rutgers University, delves deeply into the historical record, employing many unpublished primary sources. She reveals connections not only within the Hemings family but also within the Jefferson family. Ms. Gordon-Reed was the winner of the 2009 Foundation for the National Archives Records of Achievement Award.

A book signing of The Hemingses of Monticello will follow the program, and the book is available at a discount from the Archives Shop before or during the event. Please call 202-357-5271.

This event is free and open to the public, and will be held in the William G. McGowan Theater of the National Archives Building. Enter at the Special Events Entrance at Constitution Avenue and 7th St., NW. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
