Employment Readiness and Education
Taking classes or enrolling formally with area schools to further your education or finding employment or volunteer opportunities is a rewarding investment of your time. Please see below for an overview of employment and educational opportunities.
• The Employment Readiness Program (ERP) provides information and referral service in the areas of employment, education and volunteer opportunities. This is the Family Members link to public and private sector, Civilian Personnel Advisory Center (CPAC), Non-appropriated Fund (NAF), Army Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) and commissary employment opportunities. Services are provided to active duty, retirees, Reserve and National Guard, Department of Defense (DoD) civilian personnel and all of their Family Members. • Resilient Spouse Academy (RSA) - The Resilient Spouse Academy is a one-of-a-kind learning opportunity offered free of charge to all military spouses to create a network of well trained spouses who feel better prepared and motivated to truly make a difference in the lives of our individual Soldiers and their Families. The spouses become knowledgeable in high-risk situations before, during and after deployment. The academy is five days and provides eight-hour classes of intense resiliency training covering topics including suicide, domestic violence, sexual assault, substance abuse and finance. • Army Family Team Building (AFTB) – Family members new to military life or who want to know more about the opportunities available to them on post can participate in the Army Family Team Building program. AFTB classes are offered at three levels through Army Community Service and are free for everyone. The classes are taught by volunteers who have completed the AFTB program.
Level I classes are for Family members new to the military and can help make the transition an easier one. Some of the introductory classes in Level I include: Expectations and impact of the mission on Family life; military acronyms and terms; and introduction to military customs and courtesies.
Level II classes are geared for Family members who have been in the Army lifestyle for about five to ten years and who are interested in leadership development. Classes in Level II focus on topics including personal time management; stress management; exploring personality traits; and enhancing personal relationships.
Level III completes the AFTB program and is developed for Family members who want to cultivate their leadership skills. Some classes in Level III include Leadership styles; building cohesive teams; managing group conflict; and leader-assisted problem solving.

• Free classes at Barton County Community College – Over 42 different courses are available at no cost to the student, for undergraduate credit from Barton County Community College.
• The Military Spouse Career Advancement Accounts Program (MyCAA), a component of the Department of Defense’s (DoD) Spouse Education and Career Opportunities (SECO) program, is a career development and employment assistance program. MyCAA helps military spouses pursue licenses, certificates, certifications or Associate's Degrees (excluding Associate's Degrees in General Studies, Liberal Arts, and Interdisciplinary Studies that do not have a concentration) necessary for gainful employment in high demand, high growth Portable Career Fields and Occupations.

• Home-based businesses – Those with home-based businesses are required to run their business under two policies – Army Regulation 210-7 Personal Commercial Solicitation on Army Installations and Fort Riley Regulation 210-7 Commercial Solicitation at Fort Riley. In order to sell goods or services at Fort Riley, business owners or agents are required to submit a solicitation permit application to the Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation (DFMWR) for approval.
