Encourage Youth to Enter FYSB’s First Essay Contest and Share Their Stories

Every young person deserves an opportunity to share his or her story. Help your youth do that by encouraging them to enter FYSB’s first ever national essay contest for young writers.

The winner’s story will be shared online and at a national conference for youth workers. Runners up may have their essays published online, too.

Youth may write about one of the following:

1. A time that someone supported them and why what that person did mattered.
2. A time that they felt safe and what made them feel that way.
3. What they do to cheer themselves up when they’re feeling down.
4. What independence means to them, and a time when they felt independent.

The contest is open to 14- to 21-year-olds involved in a FYSB-funded Street Outreach, Basic Center or Transitional Living Program. The full guidelines and submission info are on the printable contest flier (PDF, 139KB).
