“The High-Risk Environment of Homeless Young Adults:  Consequences for Physical and Sexual Victimization,” Violence and Victims, Vol. 25, No. 1, 2010. What it’s about: In 2004-2005, the authors interviewed 127 homeless young adults between the ages of 19 and 26 to determine what characteristics or behaviors might lead them to be either physically or sexually victimized.
Just like their straight peers, LGBT teens can be abused by their partners. In fact, the rate of violence in same-gender relationships is roughly the same as in heterosexual relationships. But abuse is often experienced differently by LGBT teens. Last month, the two-year old, Salt Lake City, Utah-based organization Operation Shine America, hosted a nationwide effort to highlight the plight of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning youth. Events were held in cities and towns across the country, thanks both to the grassroots network the group has built and its partnerships with larger state or national organizations.
