Just saw a piece on Viper Company 1st ID stationed in Afghanistan(sp). Just wanted to pass on my well wishes and congratulations for a job well done.
Also my heartfelt thank you to those not only from Viper Co. but also all those that gave their life for this country.
Served during Desert Storm with the 233rd MP Co., Springfield IL. We had a platoon that was attached with a 1st ID unti while we were there. Again thank you and welcome home.

I was one of the vets from 1/18th attending the (3/1 AD to 2/1 ID reflagging) ceremony last Friday. The way I (we)
were treated was no less than fantastic. I'm a Nam combat vet--68/69-and my trip
to Ft Riley stirred up a lot of memories both good and bad. It will take awhile
for the "dust to settle" but I would do it again without hesitation. I can't tell
you how good it made me feel to visit with the troops. They certainly are something
to be proud of. I'll cherish this visit for the rest of my life! Thanks-Lou

I want to express my appreciation for the wonderful performance of the 1st Infantry
Band that performed in Mountain Home, AR recently. I look forward to seeing them
again in the near future. The program was truly outstanding. Please forward my comments

As a member of the 1st ID from '76 to '79 it makes me proud to see current members
doing such a great job. Over the years I've caught glimps of 1st ID soldiers on

I will say, it was wonderful to see the Mp's show SO much concern when
it came to how bad the weather was and peeple trying to keep warm. I
was in my car most of the time keeping warm. I don't know how many
times I had an Mp or A Major General come and make sure I was ok and
my windows were cracked :D This was a doozie for Riley. But we made it
:D Some how we..as Ft. Riley need to show great appreciation to these
men and woman who have helped us recover from this serious hard ship.
In 6 years I have been here at Riley, I have never seen anything like
this, and these men and women that are helping to get the power up is

My father, John Jenkins Chalinder, was a supply sergeant during WWII, and served
proudly in the Big Red One. He was one of the lucky ones who came back alive and
intact. He subsequently went to work for the East Orange Veteran's Hospital in East
Orange, NJ, where he worked until his retirement. He was a hard worker all his life.
In his spare time he did house painting, interior and exterior, helped anyone who
needed a ride anywhere, and worked part time in his favorite bar, Dave's Glass Bar.

My grandfather served in WWII in this unit.
Government being like it is, and since
granddad didn't share much I hope to learn more about his contribution after I fill
out the paper work! It is good to know that we still have service men and women

Thank you all. It is important for me to send this as my father served in the Phillippines
as part of the Army of the Occupation, seeing what was left after the h bombs, and
still knowing that they were necessary. After
a long life of farming, steel mill
work, he became a pastor. I hope you are all realizing that in generations to come
'children' will be grateful for your service and sacrifice. Again thank you for
passing this to the infantry...those who personnally take the first step. Sincerely,
