CFP BOARD'S PUBLIC AWARENESS CAMPAIGN:  Increasing public awareness is central to CFP Board's mission to benefit the public by granting the CFP® certification and upholding it as the recognized standard of excellence for personal financial planning. In April 2011, CFP Board released its first large-scale public awareness campaign to raise the awareness of CFP® certification featuring advertisements in national print publications, in online resources, and on national cable television channels featuring the public service website for finding CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professionals.

FURTHER CONSIDERATION OF PROPOSED REVISIONS TO CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: In August 2012, CFP Board released for public comment proposed changes to the continuing education requirement for CFP® certification. In November 2012, following review of the proposed revision and the record number of comments received, the Board of Directors determined to make no changes to the CE requirement for CFP® certification at this time, requesting further review of the previously proposed changes before making any modifications.

AMENDMENTS TO FITNESS STANDARDS, EFFECTIVE SEPTEMBER 14, 2012: CFP Board has amended its Fitness Standards for Candidates and Registrants to align those standards with CFP Board's new policy regarding bankruptcy-only cases. View the amendments > (PDF, 59KB)


CFP BOARD ADOPTS NEW SANCTION GUIDELINES, EFFECTIVE AUGUST 27, 2012: CFP Board's Board of Directors approved the introduction of Sanction Guidelines, with an effective date of August 27, 2012. The Sanction Guidelines were developed to assist the Disciplinary and Ethics Commission ("Commission"), the group charged with conducting disciplinary hearings in accordance with CFP Board's Disciplinary Rules and Procedures, in maintaining consistency regarding the imposition of sanctions for similar offenses.

2012 HOUSEHOLD FINANCIAL PLANNING SURVEY: FINANCIAL PLANNING HELPS AMERICANS OF ALL INCOME LEVELS, EVEN DURING HARD TIMES
On July 23, 2012, CFP Board and the Consumer Federation of America released findings from a survey conducted to assess American's household financial goals, liabilities and strategies for saving and investing. The survey, which included comparisons to a similar survey conducted in 1997, found that Americans with a personal financial plan feel more confident and report more success managing money, savings and investments than those who have not prepared a financial plan.

BANKRUPTCY DISCLOSURE PROCEDURES, EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2012:
In April 2012, CFP Board's Board of Directors adopted a new procedure for addressing CFP® professionals and candidates for certification who have filed a single bankruptcy within the previous five years and are not under investigation by CFP Board for any other conduct. Read more > (PDF, 81KB)


AMENDMENTS TO EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT, EFFECTIVE SEPTEMBER 1, 2012:

JOB TASK DOMAINS & PRINCIPAL TOPICS: CFP Board's extensive 2009 Job Analysis Study identified new Job Task Domains, which serve as the blueprint for the March 2012 and later administrations of the CFP® Certification Examination, and new Principal Topics, which serve as a curricular framework for CFP Board-Registered Programs. Effective January 1, 2012, CFP Board will accept for CE credit only programs that address subject topics identified in either the lists of Job Task Domains or Principal Topics.
