HMDA Data Entry Software

On behalf of the FFIEC, the Federal Reserve System (the "Board") designed the HMDA Data Entry Software (DES) to assist respondents in automating the filing of their HMDA data. The free software includes editing features to help you verify and analyze the accuracy of the data. The data file created, using this software, can be submitted to your regulatory agency using one of the following export options: Submission via Web, (this is the preferred, most secure and efficient method), Internet e-mail submission, or diskette/CD-ROM for mailing. The most current version of the software (Version 2013) is only available by DOWNLOAD from the FFIEC HMDA website. Also review the HMDA Data Entry Software FAQs.

HMDA Validity-Free Submission Checklist (PRINT this page for reference during the submission process)

  • Prepare your HMDA data submission.
  • Download a free copy of the FFIEC HMDA Data Entry Software (http://www.ffiec.gov/software/default.aspx).
  • ‘Import’ the correctly formatted ‘HRID_Agency_Year.dat’ file for editing purposes.
  • Run the ‘Batch Edit’ on the HMDA data and correct all validity errors.
  • Choose Submission Option 1 or 2.  Option 1, ‘Submission via Web’, is the preferred, most secure and convenient method for HMDA data submission.
  • SUBMISSION OPTION 1: SUBMISSION via WEB
    • First choose the 'Export' option from the Front Page. Next, choose 'Submission via Web' to transmit your data to your regulatory agency in ONE step. Submission via Web is the most secure option for transmitting your HMDA data to your regulatory agency. See the software Help files for more information.
    • If your institution chooses ‘Submission via Web’, your submission is COMPLETE. 
    • Note: The CY HMDA data submission must be submitted to the Board on or before March 1 following the calendar year for which the data are compiled.
  • SUBMISSION OPTION 2: Export via Internet E-mail
    • First choose the 'Export' option from the Front Page. Next, choose 'Export to Regulatory Agency via Internet e-mail' option for encrypted submission to the Board. (This option takes you through several steps to create an encrypted file (.ENC file extension) that you must attach to an e-mail message to complete the submission).
    • Address your e-mail to HMDASUB@frb.gov, include all the required institution information and attach the encrypted HMDA file HRID_Agency_Year.ENC located at the following path: C:\HMDA Data Entry Software 2013\HMDASubmission\HRID_Agency_Year.ENC.
    • Send your encrypted, validity-free, CY HMDA data submission to the Board on or before March 1 following the calendar year for which the data are compiled.
  • Minimum Hardware Requirements:
    Pentium II or equivalent processor
    Windows XP or higher
    256MB random access memory (RAM)
    CD-ROM/Floppy disk drive (for CD-ROM/diskette submission)
    Hard drive with 320MB free space
    Mouse
    Printer

     

    Installation Instructions:

    1. The software should be installed locally on a hard disk; it is NOT network compatible.
    2. Close all programs running in Windows.
    3. Locate the directory which contains the "HMDA DES 2013 Setup.exe" executable file.
    4. Double click on the .exe file to launch the wizard which will guide you through the installation.
