2011 Term Audio Recordings of Oral Arguments/Opinions

On Monday, October 1, 2012, the National Archives received the official annual transfer from the Supreme Court of the United States for the 2011 Court Term. This transfer includes audio recordings of oral arguments before the Court, opinion announcements, and bar admissions.

The 2011 Court term included the Oral Arguments and Opinion Announcements related to the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, signed into law by President Obama on March 23, 2010.

The following case numbers were argued before the Court on March 26, 27, and 28 of 2012:

  • 11-393:   NATIONAL FEDERATION OF INDEPENDENT BUSINESS ET AL. v. SEBELIUS, SECRETARY OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES, ET AL.

  • 11-398:   DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES v. FLORIDA

  • 11-400:   FLORIDA v. DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES

The recordings of the oral arguments and the opinion announcements from the respective dates of the Court term are available below:

The consolidated opinion for the three cases was announced on June 28, 2012. Chief Justice Roberts' reading of the opinion begins at approximately 6:30 into this recording and Justice Breyer's reading of the dissenting opinion begins at approximately 26:56 into this recording available below:
