Water Lilies, 1916

The National Museum of Western Art, Tokyo

The main figure of impressionism, Claude Monet (1840-1926), settled in Giverny in 1883. From then on, his garden became his favorite subject. He worked on the color effects created by the light at different times of the day and year. Little by little, the subject, as well as the limits between earth and water began to fade away and the water lilies soon became Monet's favorite subject to paint.
