Assistant U.S. Attorneys
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York seeks a diverse complement of lawyers with a wide range of skills, paramount ethics and integrity, keen intelligence, and a sincere commitment to serve the public interest.  The Office generally seeks applicants who have approximately one to two years of legal experience beyond law school, such as associate work at a law firm or federal judicial clerkships.  Assistants are recruited not only from large law firms, and federal and state clerkships, but also from entities other than private practice, including community law groups and other public interest organizations.

The appointment of Assistant United States Attorneys is based exclusively on merit.  Experience, academic record, character, interest in public service, courtroom presence, and the ability to work with and relate to a wide variety of people are all taken into account.
