On June 28, 2010, Mr. Lawrence Gross a career senior executive who has served in a variety of executive leadership positions across both the Civilian and DOD sectors of the Federal Government was selected as the Department of the Interior’s Deputy Chief Information Officer. Prior to his appointment, Mr. Gross served as the Associate Chief Information Officer, Electronic Government at the U.S. Department of Treasury (Treasury) from April 2005 – June 2010. Treasury is an organization with over 100,000 employees, twelve Bureaus and Departmental Offices, and a $2.3 billion dollar IT investment portfolio. In his role as Associate Chief Information Officer, he was responsible for providing the strategic direction of Treasury’s Enterprise Architecture and Enterprise Solutions, EGovernment Programs, as well as, formulation and implementation of an integrated investment review governance framework to effectively influence the strategic direction of Treasury’s 2.3 billion dollar IT investment portfolio.

Additionally, Mr. Gross served at the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), as the E-Government Executive. In this role, he not only led the first DOE internal innovations initiative; he led in collaboration with the Executive Office of the President, Office of Management and Budget, the Financial Management Line of Business. As a result of his efforts, the Federal Government consolidated cabinet agency financial management systems into one of three shared service organizations resulting in significant savings to the Federal Government and the American taxpayer. Mr. Gross was awarded the Electronic Government award from the Executive Office of the President, Office of Management and Budget for his efforts with this project. Prior to assuming his leadership role at Treasury, Mr. Gross served at the Department of Justice (DOJ) in a variety of leadership roles to include Executive Assistant, Public Affairs Officer, Strategic Planning Coordinator, Cultural Diversity Coordinator, and finally Chief Executive Officer, (CEO), Camp Administrator, Federal Prison Camp, Marianna Florida.

Mr. Gross is the recipient of the prestigious Federal 100 Award, the Department of Energy, Secretary Award, and the Department of Justice Attorney General Award. In addition to his civilian awards, Mr. Gross is the recipient of numerous foreign and domestic military awards and decorations to include two Naval Achievement Medals, National Defense Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Navy and Marine Corps., Reserve, Meritorious Service Medal. Aside from his Federal executive experience, Mr. Gross is a licensed Realtor, a member of the National Association of Realtors, Southern Maryland Association of Realtors. Additionally, he serves in a non-paid capacity on the Board of Directors of a major insurance service provider.

Mr. Gross is clearly an agent of change who brings to DOI broad government and civilian executive leadership experiences having served in a variety of domestic, foreign, and military leadership positions. In addition to the noted distinctions, Mr. Gross is a prior Federal law enforcement officer, and is retired from the United States Navy after a distinguished career in Information Technology, Telecommunications, Command Control, Communications and Intelligence (C4I). Mr. Gross is a graduate of the Federal Law Enforcement, Training Center, Glynco Georgia, and the University of Maryland, University College, where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Information Systems Management.
