Introduction

This reference report provides an overview of the electronic data records in the custody of the Electronic and Special Media Records Services Division that relate to U.S. military casualties, missing in action, and prisoners of war from the Korean War era. Series and file units accessible online through the Access to Archival Databases (AAD) resource (www.archives.gov/aad) have an AAD logo AAD next to them.     This series has records for 4,714 U.S. military officers and soldiers who were prisoners of war during the Korean War and therefore considered casualties. Surviving prisoners of war were exchanged at "Big Switch-Little Switch" towards the end of the Korean War.

These include the records of persons who were missing in action or prisoners of war in either the Korean War or the Vietnam War.

    This series contains selected descriptive data about U.S. military personnel who died by hostile means (i.e. battle deaths) as a result of combat duty in the Korean War. The records date from 1/1/1950 through 2/7/1957.

    This series contains information about U.S. Army officers and soldiers who were casualties in the Korean War during the period of 2/13/1950 through 12/31/1953.
