Findings from the SEC’s Financial Literacy Study - The “Dodd-Frank Act” required the Securities and Exchange Commission to conduct a study to identify the existing level of financial literacy among retail investors as well as methods and efforts to increase the financial literacy of investors. Lori J. Schock, Director of the SEC's Office of Investor Education and Advocacy, will discuss the report’s findings.

Essentials “Reading”: The Claritas Investment Certificate - Michael McMillan, PhD, CFA, CPA will discuss the new Claritas Investment Certificate from CFA Institute, designed for non-investment professionals (Administration and Operations, Client Services, Compliance and Legal, Human Resources, Information Technology, Marketing and Sales) who strive to have a better understanding of the investment industry and want to become more effective in their roles.

Choosing to Save (and Invest) at Finance Park - Amy Marcenaro Heckman, COO of Junior Achievement of Greater Washington, and Sue Duncan of the Investment Company Institute (ICI) Education Foundation will show how using motion-capture technology helped students explore saving and investing topics.

Retiring Minds: The Need to Focus on Retirement Literacy - Financial literacy remains a huge concern for Americans as they save, invest, and prepare for retirement.  But retirees need to know different things than workers saving for retirement. Matt Greenwald, President and CEO of market research firm Greenwald & Associates shares insights.

Update on AARP Work Programs - AARP recently launched Work Reimagined (www.workreimagined.org), its new social network-based jobs program, leveraging LinkedIn, for experienced workers. Participating employers pledge to treat all employees equally regardless of age. Also, the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) has joined AARP as the co-sponsor of the AARP Best Employers for Workers Over 50 award. Only a few weeks remain to the November 12 deadline for applications. Rosa Maymi and Laura Bos from AARP Education & Outreach will discuss benefits to employers of both programs.

Xtra-Ordinary: Teaching Personal Finance With Xtranormal Videos - New York Public Library staff were recently trained on financial education resources via a software tool called “Xtranormal” that “…helps you create amazing interactive stories with a few clicks and a little imagination”. Dr. Barbara O'Neill, Financial Resource Management Specialist, Rutgers Cooperative Extension, will show you how and introduce a video that promotes Social security benefit estimates and ASEC's Ballpark Estimate.
