Summary: The proposed research and evaluation study will evaluate the effectiveness of a local community-based violence prevention program that targets higher-risk youth who are involved in the juvenile justice system. The goal of the proposed research is to provide a rigorous evaluation of RAVEN’s Youth Violence Prevention program to determine its effectiveness in addressing youth intimate partner (dating) violence. This effort will evaluate the program using the most rigorous design feasible and based on standards outlined in the CrimeSolutions.gov evidence of program effectiveness. The research will target 256 youth with half being referred from St. Louis City’s Family Court to participate in RAVEN’s prevention model that is implemented in small-group format and covers knowledge of violence, tools to deal with conflict, and the dynamics of healthy and unhealthy relationships. A matched comparison group of youth will receive the general standard of care provided by their respective agencies. The research will utilize valid and reliable outcome measures to determine intervention effectiveness (pre and post) and sustained effects (6- and 9-month follow-up). The research will be conducted by an academic research team skilled in conducting high-level research and community evaluation studies.
