Education is key to strengthening the foundations of tolerance, reducing discrimination and violence, and promoting learning to live together. This requires cultivating respect for all people regardless of color, gender, descent, or national, ethnic, or religious identity.
With that goal in mind, UNESCO is launching a curriculum development program entitled Teaching Respect for All. This curriculum will be designed to promote anti-racism and tolerance, and that countries can adapt to their respective contexts and needs. The project aims to identify practical tools explaining how to address issues related to racism and intolerance in education.
The curriculum, which is being launched in partnership with the United States, Brazil, Morocco, Bahamas, Germany, France, Indonesia, Slovakia, Canada, and the European Union, aligns with UNESCO’s overarching goals of reducing intolerance, violence and discrimination through education, including through human rights education, holocaust education, multicultural education, intercultural education and education to counter bullying in schools.
