Overview:

CDC’s Office of Public Health Preparedness and Response funds Preparedness and Emergency Response Research Centers (PERRCs) to examine the organization, function, capacity, and performance of components in the public health system in preparing for and responding to all potential threats and hazards. The Johns Hopkins PERRC focuses on mental and behavioral aspects of public health systems research in preparedness and emergency response. Their latest research examines approaches to enhancing healthcare providers' willingness to respond to public health emergencies across a variety of hazards, and explores opportunities for enhanced collaborations between local health department leaders and faith-based leaders in building community preparedness for disasters. Please join us for this COCA call where subject matter experts will provide practical, evidence-based insights related to strategies for building healthcare response capacity in public health emergencies

Objectives:

At the conclusion of the session, the participant will be able to accomplish the following:

  • Describe key influences affecting the willingness of healthcare providers to respond to public health emergencies
  • Describe how a threat-and efficacy-based model can inform approaches to boosting health providers willingness to respond to public health emergencies
  • Identify the five components of the Johns Hopkins Model of Psychological First Aid Training for Paraprofessional Disaster Volunteers.
  • Describe three major ideas proposed by representatives of local health departments to sustain project-initiated, disaster preparedness relationships with faith-based organizations
