These Web Tables provide estimates of certificate credit requirements, certificate completion times, and labor market outcomes for undergraduate students who entered postsecondary education for the first time in 2003–04 and whose postsecondary transcripts indicated the first credential earned by spring 2009 was a subbaccalaureate certificate (certificate completers). The results are based on data from about 1,700 certificate completers representing a population of approximately 311,000 students in the 2003–04 Beginning Postsecondary Students Longitudinal Study, Second Follow-up (BPS:04/09), a nationally representative sample of undergraduates first interviewed during the 2003–04 academic year and followed over a period of 6 academic years. |

The study examined the effect of an early childhood education program on educational attainment by age 28. The study found positive, statistically significant differences on four outcomes related to educational attainment. Intervention group members completed 0.27 years more schooling, on average, than comparison group members. In addition, intervention group members were more likely to complete high school (82% versus 75%), graduate on time from high school (44% versus 37%), and attend a four-year college than comparison group members (15% versus 11%). |

This report describes the methods and procedures used in the 2004/09 Beginning Postsecondary Students Longitudinal Study (BPS:04/09). These students, who started their postsecondary education during the 2003-04 academic year, were first interviewed as part of the 2004 National Postsecondary Student Aid Study (NPSAS:04). BPS:04/09 is the second and final follow-up interview of this cohort. This report provides the methodology and outcomes of the BPS:04/09 student interview data collection, transcript data collection, and administrative records matching. The BPS study is unique in that it includes both traditional and nontraditional students, follows their paths through postsecondary education over the course of 6 years, and is not limited to enrollment at a single institution. For the first time in BPS, transcripts were collected from all of the postsecondary institutions attended by the sample. Together, the student interview and transcript data collections represent a significant and rich data source on this cohort of first-time beginning students. |

In addition to reporting student goals, tables display outcomes after 5 years for all three cohorts and after 6 years for students who began in 1995–96 and 2003–04. Results are shown by selected student demographic characteristics and by student enrollment characteristics. |
