DNA Diagnostic Laboratory

The NEI DNA Diagnostic Laboratory is a CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments) certified clinical molecular diagnostic laboratory in the Ophthalmic Genetics and Visual Function Branch of the NEI Division of Intramural Research. The NEI DNA Diagnostic Laboratory provides clinical genetic testing with requisition from NEI ophthalmologists as part of standard of care and accepts referrals for genetic testing from ophthalmologists around the world for a number of inheritable ophthalmic disorders. The NEI DNA Diagnostic Laboratory also serves as the core facility for the eyeGENE® program, a NEI sponsored National Ophthalmic Disease Genotyping and Phenotyping Network, processing samples submitted from more than 187 participating clinics nationwide. In addition, the NEI DNA Diagnostic Laboratory engages in R&D for clinical molecular diagnostics focusing on ophthalmic disorders and collaborates with clinicians and research laboratories in the vision research community for clinical and translational research. The NEI DNA Diagnostic Laboratory is committed to full compliance with CLIA law and regulations for clinical laboratories and pursues advanced methodologies and technologies in the field of molecular diagnostics to better serve patients.
